Taormina Sicily, The Jewel of the Southern Mediterranean

Taormina Sicily Cioccolato E Gelato Italy

Taormina is a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily and in my opinion is one of the most underrated Jewels of the Mediterranean.

With wonderous views across the bay and perched up high on Sicilian Cliff tops Taormina has so much to offer to all who come to visit and explore. Taormina can cater to all and sundry from 5-star accommodation to more cost-effective family modern apartments all located in the historical centre of this medieval village.

Personally, I have been coming here now for over thirty years and this place never ceases to amaze me. Taormina’s ability to allow one to disconnect and slowly immerse themselves in a lifestyle and atmosphere that screams the Dolce Vita.

Taormina Sicily has been a well-known secret amongst the rich and famous for many years with many writers and well-known influential people over the years such Alexander Dumas, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Klimt, Richard Wagner, Oscar Wilde, Truman Capote, John Steinbeck, Nietzsche and DH Lawrence all having walked the streets of Taormina Sicily at one time or another.

Whether you are wondering around the coble stone streets and alleyways looking for that perfect coffee, a family run trattoria or just taking in the views and people watching this little village has something for everyone.

What do we like to do, we rent a one bedroom apartment in the historical centre of town, we get up early and watch the magnificent sunrises, talk to the street sweepers (yes old school with straw brooms) grab our coffee and morning cornetto (head to the café across the road from the post office – you will find it easily enough) and then we work out it from there. Sometimes just sitting back smelling the roses and watching the world go by is more than enough.
